Mozambique
Plantation Capital are starting the development of 1250 acres split across 2 farms in the Beira and Chimoio regions of Mozambique. The farms will be agroforestry operations growing food crops such as maize and soya and all short rotation forestry crops for biomass and renewable energy production.
This is phase one of our Africa expansion program which will commence in Q1 2012 with a target of 50,000 hectares in production by 2015 across Mozambique, Tanzania and Malawi. We believe that Africa, alongside Sri Lanka and Asian countries currently offers the most attractive growth prospects for capital investment and annual returns.
The East Coast of Africa has again been hit by drought and crop failures with the potential of famine spreading quickly, possibly on a level as high as the 1980's peak. The demand across the continent for productive food crop production will be high both from a financial investment aspect and socially responsible viewpoint. Plantation Capital is well placed to capitalise on this demand and help communities grow and flourish.
